Ice Ice Baby

Ice Ice Baby

The love for Diamonds have played a massive role in coining the term ‘Bling’. Bling jewellery in all its magnificence often comes across as pieces of ice frozen in time. While it may be a new term, the concept is as old as time. The desire to adorn our bodies with beautiful jewellery is inherently human. The Greeks used gold, silver and metal for jewellery ranging from rings and pendants to bracelets and earrings. The Romans wore precious stones, including opals, emeralds. In Egypt, everyone wore jewellery, regardless of status; employing everything from precious metals and semi-precious stones to painted clay, stones, shells, and bones. In medieval times, perhaps more so than at any other time, jewellery served as a symbol of social status; nobility wore precious jewellery, and the general public wore base metals like copper. One of the largest cut diamonds in the world, which was encrusted in Shah Jahan’s famous Peacock Throne, the Daria-I-Noor (“Sea of light”), is the rarest shade of pale pink to be found in diamonds. Fast-forward three hundred years, and bling is still very much in. Simply put, the word ‘bling’ means flashy jewellery that shows off a particularly bold personality. Perhaps the term bling is not so much referring to shiny things, but in fact the things that make us feel like we shine. Bling is everywhere. From royal crowns commissioned for the display of diamonds, to fancy phone covers.

Given the timeless appeal of bling, it is no surprise that major fashion brands would want to dabble in studded costume jewellery.

According to the annual Trend Report, big sculptural jewellery and “larger-than-life accessories” will be the flavour of the season this year. We’re here today with another look at a popular trend in the jewellery world which is Cubic Zirconia jewellery. Cubic Zirconia has long been used as an affordable alternative to diamonds. While it does occur naturally, almost all CZ you’ll see in the stores today are man-made. Because of its association as an alternative diamond, Cubic Zirconia is also known as diamond simulate, synthetic diamond, or faux diamond.

Another style in this trend is high contrast, bling power pieces. Show-stopping jewellery that turns heads and makes you go wow! Think women’s choker in bold bling and large pendant necklaces. It is all about going big and drawing attention to the beautiful jewellery.

Our new Collection is a great example of such pieces. The Amalfi Necklace, Mia Choker, Crystal Statement Choker, Eva Hand harness and Elsa Ring all feature stunning stones that really stands out.
